Maryland lawmakers reach last day of legislative session

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland lawmakers have reached the final day of their legislative session, with mostly fine-tuning to do.

They had a productive three months despite being slowed by pandemic precautions. With top-priority legislation on pandemic relief and police reform already passed, lawmakers are focusing on finishing touches to send legislation to Gov. Larry Hogan before their scheduled adjournment Monday at midnight.

One of the high-profile measures left unresolved relates to the implementation of sports betting, which voters approved with 67% support in November. The Senate lifted caps on the number of sports betting licenses and would allow stadiums where Maryland’s three professional sports teams play to have regular sports betting.
