ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland lawmakers spent their weekend redrawing the state’s U.S. House districts after a judge said the current map shows “extreme partisan gerrymandering.

It’s the first congressional map drawn by Democrats to be overturned. Other judges have blocked Republican-drawn maps for Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. A spokesman for state Senate President Bill Ferguson says lawmakers should have it on the desk of Republican Gov. Larry Hogan by midweek.

Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1 in Maryland, yet Democrats hold a 7-1 advantage in House seats, and opponents said their map made the seat of Republican Rep. Andy Harris more vulnerable.
