Bethany Hall-Long Launches Her Campaign for Delaware Governor

WILMINGTON, DE – Yesterday in Wilmington alongside grassroots supporters and Delawareans, Bethany Hall-Long announced her candidacy for Governor of Delaware.

Throughout her career, Bethany has been a champion for working families in the state and a national leader on improving access to health care. She previously served in the State House and State Senate before being elected Lieutenant Governor in 2016. She has worked as a nurse her entire career, including teaching nursing at the University of Delaware.

“As a nurse, mom and proud Delawarean, I’m running for Governor to make Delaware the best place to live, work and raise a family,” said Bethany Hall-Long. “There’s work to do to improve access to health care, create good-paying jobs, protect our rights and strengthen our education system – and I’m up for the challenge, because when you give a nurse a job – that job gets done.”

The launch featured stakeholders and community advocates who have been pivotal in Bethany’s work as Lieutenant Governor. Bethany was introduced by young Wilmingtonian Jackie Means, Delaware’s STEM Queen, who has known Bethany since she was 12 years old. Dr. Sandra Gibney, who led the fight with Bethany against the opioid epidemic in the state’s hardest hit areas, spoke to her commitment and drive to serve our state’s most vulnerable.

With over two decades of service to the state, Bethany has fought for Delaware families, delivering legislation to expand affordable health care and mental health services, tackle the opioid epidemic and protect and expand abortion rights.

Bethany Hall-Long is running for Governor because she wants to make Delaware the best place to live, work and raise a family. As a Delaware native, Bethany was born and raised in Sussex County, on her family’s farm in Dagsboro. A proud graduate of Delaware public schools, Bethany followed her calling to a career in nursing, working for over 40 years as a nurse and later as an educator. She and her husband Dana, a Navy veteran, raised their son Brock in New Castle County. Bethany’s experience as a nurse led her to bring her fight to the state legislature, where she expanded access to affordable care for thousands and led efforts to address mental health and substance use disorders.

Since 2017, Bethany has served as the 26th Lieutenant Governor of Delaware, championing investments in public education, paid family leave, affordable health care, and small businesses.
